It is because,when we r going to temple,we are actually get involved in 'koodhu pirathanai'
that means a group of devotees which has different backgrounds praying at the same place.Whereby,at home,we just pray among us,family members and friends.
Please notice that not necessary to go to the temple to get the God or Goddess blessings,according to our religion.If ones heart is true,then the God will come to him at anytime and anywhere,thats Hinduism.If we gathered some number of people at home and doing the preyers and bhajans,that called as a koodhu prathanai,so it fullfill the requirement of the individual satisfaction to get involved in public as well at temple.Thus,the positive energy will be there,around the pratthanai area.
